At Rammed Earth Development, Inc., (R.E.D.) we specialize in the design and construction of fine, hand-crafted masonry homes. The masonry systems we use include rammed earth, adobe, pressed earth block, ICF systems such as Performwall and insulated concrete block (in roughly descending order of cost). Our designs often use a combination of wall systems to achieve our clients’ goals. The thick walls of our houses work well with a variety of architectural styles and are energy efficient, environmentally friendly, non-toxic, sound buffering, and termite and fire resistant. Because we offer design services as well as general contracting services, we can guide your project from inception through completion. In addition to our custom home design/build services, we have joined forces with a team of builders to design and construct an urban in-fill neighborhood at the Rio Nuevo site in downtown Tucson, Arizona. “New Urbanism” is the guiding philosophy of this development. New Urbanism has been described as the art of place making and some its hallmarks include creating pedestrian-friendly thoroughfares and common outdoor gathering places, and integrating retail, office and residential buildings.
